CEO Blog - 4.10.24

Hello everyone,

What a busy and fulfilling week it has been!

As I think about the various events and conversations that took place, I am reminded of the commitment and passion that drives our community forward.

Monday brought me to London, where I had the opportunity to meet with fellow AP/SEND MAT CEOs.

It was an incredibly insightful day, especially meeting Martyn Oliver, the head of Ofsted.

Our discussions about the Department for Education's future plans were crucial in ensuring that our collective voice is heard at a national level.

It's important that we advocate effectively for our students and schools.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had a monitoring visit from Ofsted at Thomas Ashton.

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff for their dedication and hard work as we prepare for the school's journey to join our trust.

Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

It was also great to gather with our heads of site this week. We delved into key issues such as the new staff pool, which has gained positive feedback regarding its effectiveness in providing support for cover, which I know is a pressing concern for all schools at this time.

Collaborating on solutions is essential, and I’m pleased to see the progress we’re making.

I had a lovely time visiting Spring Brook Lower during their Macmillan coffee afternoon.

It was great to hear the positive feedback from families.

And let’s not forget the delicious cakes - what a treat!

On Wednesday, Liz O'Shaughnessy, Steve Williams and I had the pleasure of welcoming new staff members during our second trust induction.

This is a vital opportunity to show new starters the broader context of the New Bridge Group and the unique benefits of being part of such a diverse community.

We are excited to have them join us on this journey!

I also participated in the Aspiring Leaders course this week, where I had the privilege to listen to presentations from our aspiring leaders about their leadership journeys and research.

Their enthusiasm and commitment are inspiring, and I encourage everyone to look out for opportunities to participate in this next year.

The week wrapped up beautifully with a visit to the college, where I met the new young people in the Future Finders pathway.

One quote that will resonate with me throughout the weekend came from a young person discussing their placements:

It’s great how we are all getting to do our dream jobs!

Moments like these are a poignant reminder of why we do what we do.

Enjoy your weekend!
