Hot off the press!

I heard some great news this week…

The Trust has been successful with its bid to take a group of our 16+ students to the USA, next year.

We received 90k from the Governments Turing Fund. We are one of just 3 special schools/trusts in the UK to get this funding.

Dan and Richard told the students earlier this week.

So here are the details…

There will be 20 Digital Students from KS5 going with 10 staff.

They will work alongside 20 students from a school in Chicago called Ridgewood High School.

We’ll be spending 7 days in Ridgewood school working on a ‘Tech Enabling enterprise’ project, where we’ll design an app to assist in selling a product.

The group will be visiting tech firms in Chicago – one may even resemble a fruit!

Workshops in the school will be led by our staff, Ridgewood staff and industry professionals from global tech firms.

Our trip will culminate in pitch/presentation of apps (students to work in teams) at a global tech HQ in Chicago.

Our provisional plan is to fly out on the 14th March 2022.

As well as working hard, the students and staff on the visit will have a number of cultural/activity days where they will visit local tourist attractions, museums, theatres.

So far we’ve lined up the Blue Man Group and Moulin Rouge, theme parks and more!

They’ll all be staying in a 4 star hotel.

What an amazing experience.

As part of the grant agreement we will be creating a documentary of the trip to share when we get back.

We’re just about to commence virtual meet ups.

The young people will get to know each other and then each individual knows about each other’s town/city.

Congratulations to everyone who put the bid together/ I can’t wait to see the outcomes.

What a way to complete the week.
