Graham
It’s been a really productive week.

On Wednesday I spent the day hearing about the Bridge GM Careers Hub launch.

New Bridge MAT has been selected as one of only 3 schools in Greater Manchester to support the roll out of a renewed careers initiative across the borough.

Dan Wood is leading on this development and there are some brilliant plans afoot.

At the launch event, I was fortunate to be able to have lunch with Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester. It was great to hear of his plans for children and young people. One of the ideas we talked about was to try to develop accreditation for employers who support young people in the workplace. There has to be an incentive for employers to take young people as the commitment, from them, is really significant. I really believe that there needs to be a win:win.

I am aware that many larger companies are making real inroads into supporting young people and their families. Manchester Airport have their super initiative that allows children and young people with ASD to fast track certain areas, some cinemas are now having special screenings and some major supermarkets are setting time aside for families and children to have a more comfortable shopping experience. Businesses are really starting to involve our children and families in a much more positive way. Maybe a GM accreditation system will be another next step forward.

On Friday a number of the central team had a ‘visioning day’ where we explored a few options relating to the future of the Multi Academy Trust and the Group. We threw around lots of ideas. I was delighted with some of the views that were expressed. It was wonderful to take some time to look at our trust’s vision. We discussed at length whether ‘Learning together, learning for all, learning for life’ is still relevant. There was a general consensus that those simple 9 words are still incredibly powerful and clearly articulate what our trust is about.

Anyway, that’s it for this week. Have a great weekend,

Graham
